I think that there are many healthy passions in life, but the artistic passion behind knife making goes hand in hand with sickness. It's the passion that drives me, but the sickness that compels me to manipulate hot steel and create and explore what lies within the forged blade. I have never had something work my mind to exhaustion like trying to unlock the properties of steel to its max and have a fluid motion of flow from blade into handle, a natural feeling extension and balance and beauty with the ability to wreak and inflict complete havak on contact. Blade smiths have the ability to transfer a portion of their soul and presence into an inanimate lifeless object and give it personality. So with yellow venomous coal smoke in the air over a tortuous fire we get to play God for a few minutes at a time with hammer in hand and anvil at our side we create...why? Because we have too.
